OAKLAND -- Firefighters tackled a one-alarm fire at a North Oakland home on Saturday morning, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported in the accidental fire that broke out just before 10:45 a.m. at a three-unit apartment complex in the 600 block of 55th Street, fire Captain Dino Torres said.

Responding crews found the attic of an apartment at the complex ablaze, Torres said.

A tenant who lived in the apartment was not home when the fire broke out, Torres said, and crews had the fire contained by 11:05 a.m.

Investigators determined that contractors working on the roof of the complex accidentally started the blaze while torching tar on the roof of the building.

None of the contractors on the roof were injured.

The fire caused about $40,000 in damage to the complex.
