SAN LEANDRO -- Police on Tuesday released a sketch of a man they suspect sexually assaulted a young girl inside a bathroom at an apartment complex recreation center.

Authorities are asking the public's help in identifying the suspect, who was gone by the time police arrived at the Lakeside Village Apartment Complex on Saturday.

The girl was with family members using the swimming pool when the suspect followed her into a nearby bathroom and attacked her at about 4:35 p.m., according to police.

Detectives do not know how he entered the locked building on the 3000 block of Waterfall Way but believe he was there visiting a resident or sneaked in by following someone who had an access key.

The suspect is black, 19 or 20 years old, approximately 5-foot-7 and weighs between 140 to 180 pounds. He had tattoos on his arms.

Anyone able to identify the suspect or provide information on the case is asked to call San Leandro police at 510-577-2740. Tipsters can remain anonymous by calling 510-577-3278.
