CAMPBELL -- Police are searching for a man suspected of shooting two people multiple times during an attempted armed robbery Sunday morning in a bank parking lot near the Pruneyard Shopping Center.

The man is being sought for double attempted homicide, and he may be connected to a second armed robbery that took place about 10 minutes prior to the shooting. Campbell police believe the incidents are connected and shared "very similar circumstances," police Capt. Gary Berg said.

"It's very troubling to us," Berg said. "It was two separate situations within a mile of each other where a gun was used. We're devoting our resources toward identifying the people involved because of the seriousness of the situation."

Police first responded to the shooting, at 12:26 a.m., after receiving a report of gunshots heard in the area of Campbell and Union avenues. When officers arrived they found a 22-year-old woman and a 31-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of First Bank at 790 E. Campbell Avenue, across the street from the Pruneyard.

Both victims are expected to survive.

Police say a male suspect first approached the woman and attempted to rob her at gunpoint. But her male companion interrupted the robbery and a "struggle ensued," Berg said.

Officers later learned about a robbery that occurred about 10 minutes before the shooting in the area of Second Street and Civic Center Drive. The suspect in that incident robbed the victim, a 25-year-old woman, at gunpoint.

Police aren't sure if more than one person was involved in the crimes but believe they are connected. The suspect in the shooting was last seen fleeing in a dark-colored sedan.
