SAN JOSE -- A fire early Wednesday morning damaged the recreation room of a senior assisted living complex in Willow Glen on Wednesday, according to a fire captain.

San Jose firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which was contained to the recreation/office building, according to Capt. Ray Nibbi.

Nobody was inside the room when the fire broke out.

None of the residents of the Atria Willow Glen senior living home at 1660 Gaton Drive was displaced by the blaze.

The fire was reported at 4:56 a.m., and fire crews initially called for a second alarm as a precautionary measure because of the surrounding structures, Nibbi said. But the second-alarm units that responded were not used, and the blaze was under control in about 40 minutes.

Fire crews believe the blaze started in the attic space/roof area, Nibbi said.
