ALAMEDA -- Trustees with the Alameda Unified School District will consider appointing an interim superintendent when they meet Tuesday at City Hall.
Sean McPhetridge, a former assistant superintendent with the district, would begin his duties Wednesday under the proposed contract, which extends through June 30, 2015.
The possible appointment of McPhetridge follows the departure of former Superintendent Kirsten Vital, who in June was named superintendent of the Capistrano Unified School District in Orange County.
McPhetridge most recently served as interim director of student programs and services at the Alameda County Office of Education.
His salary as interim superintendent of the Alameda school district would be $180,000 annually under the proposed contract. He will also receive a stipend because he has a doctorate in education from Harvard University, plus he will be reimbursed up to $2,000 for membership dues in the Association of California School Administrators and for enrollment in that organization's Superintendent's Academy.
The terms of the contract also allow McPhetridge to participate in the district's medical, dental, vision and disability insurance programs.
Along with serving as assistant superintendent of the Alameda district between 2010 and 2013, McPhetridge was principal of the Alameda Science and Technology Institute between 2005 and 2008.
His background also includes serving as the district's director of secondary and career technical education and as the instructional vice principal at Alameda High School.
Assistant Superintendent Barbara Adams, who has been with the district two years, has been acting superintendent since Vital officially ended her job on Aug. 1.
While trustees will consider appointing McPhetridge during a closed session at Tuesday's regular meeting, they will take public comment beginning at 5 p.m. They will reconvene for the open session at 6:30 p.m. City Hall is located at 2263 Santa Clara Ave.
