A Hayward man suspected of robbing a pharmacy at gunpoint on Thursday has been arrested in connection to the heist.
Antone Ray Wiggins, 22, was arrested on suspicion of armed robbery following the morning holdup at the business in the 27000 block of Hesperian Boulevard, Sgt. Ryan Cantrell said.
A pharmacy employee told police that a man armed with a semi-automatic handgun entered the business about 9:50 a.m., right after it opened, and demanded prescription narcotics.
The staffer complied, police said, and handed over several bottles of wholesale amounts of liquid and pill prescription narcotics. The suspect then ran from the business in an unknown direction.
The pharmacy employee saw a vehicle leave the scene at high speed, and gave police a description.
Shortly after, a car matching that description was located at a home in the 25000 block of Gettysburg Avenue, Cantrell said.
Officers saw a man leave the house and then go back in. He fit the description of the suspect from the robbery, and they called him out and arrested him.
The employee also identified the man as the suspect in the armed robbery.
During a search of the home, police found prescription narcotics stolen from the pharmacy and a firearm.
