ANTIOCH -- A man was seriously injured Friday evening after he fell onto the Antioch Bridge, though authorities were still trying to determine if the man jumped or was pushed out of the car he was in.

The man was discovered on the side of the highway at around 7:45 p.m., according to a dispatcher. Both directions of Highway 160 were briefly closed while officials attempted to retrieve the man and investigate the scene, but were reopened around 8:30 p.m.

Authorities are still investigating how the man, who is believed to be in his 30s, came to be on side of the bridge, but confirmed that it was not the result of a vehicle accident.

"We still don't know if he was pushed our or whether he jumped out," a Contra Costa Fire dispatcher said.

The victim suffered major injuries and was evacuated by helicopter.
