$1,000 reward offered in shooting of dog

A Chihuahua dog found shot and paralyzed this month in Menlo Park has led humane society officials to offer a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of the shooter.

The 6-pound brown dog was found wounded Aug. 1 in the 1300 block of Henderson Avenue in East Menlo Park, Peninsula Humane Society spokesman Scott Delucchi said.

The dog was rushed to a humane society veterinarian, who determined the 4- to 5-year-old dog had been paralyzed, Delucchi said, by a bullet that went straight through its body.

A series of X-rays indicated the dog had a severed spine and would never again be able to use its hips or back legs. The staff treated the dog with pain medication and it was euthanized the same day.

Officials at the PHS and SPCA have offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Anyone with information about the shooting may call investigator Christina Hanley at 650-340-7022, ext. 384.
