SAN JOSE -- Gasoline leaking from a tanker truck led to a traffic jam on Interstate 880 here Saturday morning.
Gas spilled out of the transportation tank the truck was hauling and on to southbound I-880 just north of Coleman. Authorities closed down at least one lane of the highway for about 90 minutes to deal with the leak.
The California Highway Patrol first received reports of the leak around 8:50 a.m., according to the CHP's Traffic Incident Information system. San Jose firefighters were on the scene to deal with the spill by 9:06, according to a San Jose Fire dispatcher.
The leak stemmed from a hole in the transportation tank, according to the dispatcher. Seven Fire Department units, including a hazardous incident team, responded to the leak, the dispatcher said.
Authorities re-opened I-880 around 10:40 a.m., according to the CHP's log.
