BRENTWOOD --A 35-year-old Antioch man suspected of driving under the influence walked away with minor injuries after crashing into a sign in Brentwood on Thursday evening, a police sergeant said Friday.
The man was reportedly speeding on Balfour Road near Country Club Drive when he attempted to turn onto County Club Drive and lost control of his car, crashing into a sign at the entrance of the Shadow Lakes subdivision around 7:05 p.m., Brentwood police Sgt. Walter O'Grodnick said.
"Further investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage," the sergeant said.
The man was airlifted via medical helicopter to be treated for "scrapes and bruises" suffered in the crash as a precaution, O'Grodnick said.
No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.
The case will be forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office to determine whether charges will be filed.
