The fall TV season always brings a deluge of shiny new shows. But let's not forget all of our old favorites that left us hanging from various cliffs a few months ago.

As television bursts back into action, here are the five shows whose return we are anticipating the most -- and the burning questions we have for them:

1. "The Walking Dead" (AMC, Oct. 12): When we last saw them, several members of our survivor gang, including Rick and Carl, were being held captive in a gloomy train car in Terminus. What the heck is going on there? Meanwhile, where are Carol, Tyreese and Baby Judith? And what's all this we've been hearing about cannibalism?

2. "Scandal" (ABC, Sept. 25): We want to know where Olivia headed off to with Jake, and how long that whole little fling will last. Can Rowan (who killed the president's son) keep his heinous deeds a secret? And what's to become of OPA? Also, we're looking forward to the new recurring character played by Portia de Rossi.

3. "The Blacklist" (NBC, Sept. 22): After crash-landing that plane on purpose, the villainous Berlin is on the loose. Can Red and the FBI track him down? Meanwhile, is Tom actually dead? (We bet not). Who's Liz's daddy? And what's up with those scars on Red's back?

4. "The Big Bang Theory" (CBS, Sept. 22): Where's Sheldon? And when will he come back to the fold? Our favorite nerd on TV's most popular comedy went AWOL after experiencing too many changes in his life -- including the engagement of Leonard and Penny, who will move in together.

5. "Sleepy Hollow" (Fox, Sept. 22): Whoa. So Henry turned out to be Ichabod and Katrina's son, and was so angry he buried his father alive and handed Mommy over to Death. What's to become of Ichabod? Poor Abbie may be of little help since she was left in purgatory. As the twisted tale continues, what new monsters will we meet?

And here are 5 more ...

"Sons of Anarchy" (FX, Sept. 9): What will Jax do when (or if) he finds out that it was Gemma who really killed his beloved Tara?

"The Good Wife" (CBS, Sept. 21): Will Diane actually go through with her defection to Florrick-Agos?

"The Mindy Project" (Fox, Sept. 16): What's next for Mindy and Danny?

"Bones" (Fox, Sept. 25): After Booth was framed for killing three federal agents, will the team be able to clear his name?

"NCIS: Los Angeles" (CBS, Sept. 29): How will Callen and Sam get off that blasted submarine before it goes ka-boom?
