NEWARK -- A Hayward woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and child endangerment after authorities said she lost control of her car and crashed over the weekend, injuring her 4-year-old son.

The child was recovering on Wednesday, and his mother, identified as Amanda Landeros, 27, remained incarcerated on $30,000 bail, jail records show.

Newark police said the crash took place about 9 p.m. Sunday on Central Avenue.

Landeros was reportedly driving a 1999 Honda Civic east on Central between Newark Boulevard and Birch Street when she lost control and struck a parked 1999 GMC pickup truck, Cmdr. Michael Carroll said.

Her son, who was in the back seat improperly buckled in, was thrown into the front seat during the collision, Carroll said. The boy was taken to a hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

His mother, who was not injured, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment, police said.
