ORINDA -- Firefighters from nearly a half-dozen local and state agencies were battling a one-alarm wildfire Wednesday northeast of Lake El Toyonal on East Bay Municipal Utility District watershed property, authorities said.
About 11:52 a.m., an officer patrolling the area just west of the San Pablo Reservoir smelled smoke and investigated the fumes. The officer noticed a plume of smoke north of Wildcat Canyon Road and El Toyonal, East Bay Regional Parks Police Lt. Jon King said.
About one-half acre of the property had burned as of 1 p.m., King said, but the flames had been brought under control.
Crews from CalFire, Contra Costa Fire District, Moraga-Orinda Fire District and the East Bay Regional Parks District were on scene fighting the blaze.
PG&E workers were also on the scene due to downed power lines, King said.
The California Highway Patrol was steering traffic around the fire.
