RICHMOND -- A man was struck and killed by an Amtrak train Monday afternoon in an apparent suicide near the Richmond train station, according to Richmond police.
At 3:50 p.m., the conductor of a commuter train headed from Martinez to Richmond saw a man lying on the tracks along the Barrett over-crossing, police said. The conductor blew the train's horn, but the man did not move. He was struck and died instantly.
Police did not know the man's name Monday evening.
The train was held at the scene until about 5:50 p.m. as police investigated.
