Anthony Pirone, a former officer many said escalated tensions the night Oscar Grant III was killed by fellow former Officer Johannes Mehserle, has been charged with unemployment fraud.
Police late Tuesday were investigating a fatal shooting in downtown Oakland. The shooting at 13th Street and Broadway was reported at 10:21 p.m., Oakland police said.
