An interfaith blood drive, sponsored by a partnership between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Catholic communities and 10 other religious groups, is on track to be the largest in Red Cross history, a spokesperson said.
Blood is being collected from ,pre than 80 blood drives through the month of July with a goal of doubling last year's yield of 1,700 pints, director Marilyn Wright said. At the month's halfway point, the effort had already exceeded that number.
"We are setting unprecedented records," she said. "To get this number of eligible donors makes these kind of drives that much more precious. Each unit of blood has potential to save one to three lives -- with a goal of 3,000 units, you do the math."
