Wolverines roll past Falcons

  • Nsimba Webster accounted for four touchdowns as the Deer Valley High football team topped College Park 35-6 on Sept. 7. Webster ran for two touchdowns, including one of 72 yards, and threw for two more. Deer Valley's defense held College Park to two field goals. The Wolverines are 2-0 entering their Sept. 14 game at Folsom.

    Lions earn sweep

  • The Liberty High boys and girls water polo teams swept Freedom to open Bay Valley Athletic League play on Sept. 5. Matt Lange scored eight goals in the boys' 14-8 victory while Savannah Rose and Jill Griffin paced the girls with three goals each in a 10-2 win.

    Mustangs unbeaten

  • The Los Medanos College football team is 2-0 after edging Cabrillo-Aptos 35-33 on Sept. 8. Former Deer Valley quarterback Mike Behr completed 13 of 28 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns. Behr's six-yard touchdown run was the game winner.

  • Berkeley at Pittsburg, football, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. -- Pittsburg will look to get back in the win column after suffering back-to-back losses to California and Monte Vista the last two Fridays.

  • San Leandro at Freedom, football, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. -- Freedom will try to rebound after falling to Franklin-Elk Grove last week. Despite their 1-2 record, Darrell Daniels has been a constant playmaker for the Falcons.

  • Mike Behr, Los Medanos football -- Behr scored the game-winning touchdown in the Mustangs' 35-33 win over Cabrillo-Aptos for their second straight win of the year on Sept. 8. Behr is also averaging 270 passing yards per game.

  • Megan Conder, Heritage girls golf -- Conder carded an even-par 36 at the Brentwood Country Club in a BVAL match against Freedom and Liberty. Despite Conder's strong round, Freedom edged Heritage 249-251.

  • Alexis Esquivel and Angela Niduaza, Liberty girls tennis -- Esquivel and Niduaza teamed to win the doubles championship at the Freedom Invitational on Sept. 8. The team beat Heritage's Jeanette Shepherd and Onyi Onwuzulike 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the final.

  • Elbert Hamilton, Antioch football -- The senior rushed for 202 yards on 19 carries and scored two touchdowns to help the Panthers beat host Golden Valley-Merced 20-13 on Sept. 7.

  • Nsimba Webster, Deer Valley football -- The quarterback passed for 156 yards, rushed for another 77 and accounted for four touchdowns as the Wolverines topped College Park 35-6 on Sept. 7.
