'Night of Living Dead' at theater this week

Local music teachers featured in Sunday concert
PITTSBURG -- The Delta Music Teachers Association will hold a concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Los Medanos College, 2700 E. Leland Road.
Featured performers include Nancy Bachmann, Susan Clark, Grace Edwards, Kathleen Flemming, Kim Griffith-Fraley, William Hobbs, Diane Maltester, Catherine Seter Thompson, Eric Thompson.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students or $20 for a family pass.
Day of the Dead opens on Friday
PITTSBURG -- Give Always to Others and Co. will present a Day of the Dead event from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Impulse Gallery, 329 Railroad Ave.
Day of the Day is a tradition of the indigenous people of Mexico and other parts of the world honoring and remembering those who have departed.
Opening festivities will feature cultural performances with Besh Benie presenting an inspirational performance of Toltec, Zapotec and Mistec people, Ballet Folklorico Jaracue with traditional dances; Salvador Vasquez playing the Mexican harp, and Los Curpites with a traditional dance representing the butterfly.
There will also be flower making and children's activities.
Artwork by local artists, altars and memory tables, commonly known as "ofrendas," will be displayed with photographs and favorite items from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the gallery.
A community altar will be available for those who wish to place a photo of a loved one.

Auditions set for 'Humbug'
ANTIOCH -- Resurrection Theatre will hold auditions for "Humbug" at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday, Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St., Antioch.
Frank Ballesteros directs this popular Christmas classic. Auditions are open to actors ages 12 and older.
Rehearsals will be 4:30 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays.
Performances will be Dec. 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 and 24.
A $40 script and production fee is required.

'Nutcracker' auditions set for Nov. 12-13
ANTIOCH -- The Pied Piper Players will hold auditions for "The Nutcracker," 5 p.m. Nov. 12 and 13, Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St., Antioch. Auditions are open to actors 7 and older.
The musical based on E.T.A. Hoffmann's "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" with music from Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite, is directed by Frank J. Ballesteros.
Rehearsals will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Performances are Nov. 23, 24, 24, and 30 and Dec. 1 and 2.

'Legend of Sleepy Hollow' set for this weekend
ANTIOCH -- El Campanil Children's Theatre presents "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday, at the El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St., Antioch.
This classic ghost story by Washington Irving and adapted by Vera Morris, is directed by Sharon Redman.
"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" tells the story of Tarry Town, a place where strange things happen and the townspeople seem entranced by spirits. Ichabod Crane, a well-educated teacher, is new to Sleepy Hollow and seems to fit right in. He's taking over the choir, courting the wealthy daughter and sharing a ghost story or two. But not everyone is happy to see Ichabod and not everyone thinks he loves ghost stories as much as he says. He meets a mysterious fate. Legend has it that he is the victim of the dreaded "headless horseman" who allegedly haunts Sleepy Hollow.

Brentwood Writes to host open mic
BRENTWOOD -- Brentwood Writes will bring all forms of the written word at Open Mic at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Gallery on Second.
All short work -- poetry, short story, nonfiction, or any other creative work -- is welcome. Participants are allowed five minutes each to perform. The group encourages participants to bring work on any subject, their own or that of another writer, as long as it is neither insulting nor abusive. Everyone is invited whether performing or listening and enjoying.
This event is free and open to the public.
Brentwood Writes is an adjunct of the Brentwood Art Society and the Brentwood Community Library. Kati Short, poet laureate, is the host.

Veterans Day concert set at El Campanil
ANTIOCH -- The El Campanil Theater will host a Veterans Day Concert 3 p.m. Nov. 11, 602 W. Second St., Antioch.
This patriotic tribute and musical celebration to our country will feature two local groups, the Summerset Singers chorus and the Summerset Big Band, together in concert. The show will inspire you with rousing favorites, including "America the Beautiful," "Armed Forces Medley" and "Battle Hymn of the Republic." The program will also feature some of the most beloved standards from the World War II era.

BD Lines continues model railroad show
ANTIOCH -- Black Diamond Lines continues its fall model railroad club show at the clubhouse at 425 Fulton Shipyard Road.
The event features an operating HO-scale model train layout.
The final show is set for 10 a. m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Auditions set for 'Guys and Dolls'
BRENTWOOD -- Brentwood Teen Theater is holding auditions for "Guys and Dolls." The tuitioned training program, which began this week, includes 14 weeks of training in acting singing and dance.
The sessions take place at Resurrection Ministries Lutheran Church at Fairview Avenue at Sand Creek Road.
Training is from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays with additional rehearsals for leading role actors. The musical will be presented in late February and early March.

Brentwood hometown band performs
BRENTWOOD -- The Brentwood Concert Band presents "A Veteran's Day Musical Salute" concert with patriotic music featuring musical numbers "Armed Forces Salute" and "The Stars and Stripes Forever.
Narrating this special event is Kermit Sveen, one of the founders of the Brentwood Concert Band. Special guests include the Los Medanos College Symphonic Band under the direction of Jonathan Knight, and the Brentwood Flute Choir.

Resurrection Ministries hosts free concert
BRENTWOOD -- William Jessup University Choir & Orchestra will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. on Nov. 9 at Resurrection Ministries, 1275 Fairview Ave. in Brentwood.
The University's Choir & Orchestra perform more than 30 concerts a year along the Pacific Northwest, with fall and spring tours to the Bay Area and Seattle.
