In the weekly feature called "e-views," we invite readers to answer a question via email.
Last week's question:
When your newly elected local council is sworn in, what do you think should be its first priority?
THE FIRST PRIORITY, take the campaign signs down!
PUT A BIG "to do" list behind the mayor in the council chambers so that the whole city can see what we all can work on together. We will all get to see the stupid priorities like RVs and boats that should have never been brought up.
WITH HIGHWAY 4 coming in, we could get some tax dollars in by getting in some businesses, which has been stagnant with the old council. I don't know who will win, but I hope they open their eyes. We need either businesses, restaurants or an Indian casino. Just get off the old duff and get Antioch going again. Why don't they have a vote to see if the citizens of Antioch want an Indian casino instead of the council voting on it? We have the opportunity, so get going.
THE NEWLY ELECTED council should first take an honest look at how the public's money has been misspent over
As part of that, the council needs to look at the overspending and over budgeting for certain employee groups. Then they need to correct those inequities that came to be over time. The public has been shortchanged by the reduction and elimination of public services and of those who worked in such. The city's responsibilities are not just about public safety or about manager's being compensated beyond reason and affordability. Overall, the lies and misrepresentations have to finally be honestly addressed and corrected for the public's benefit, not the employees only. Badly needed change is definitely the priority in our city.
