Heritage wins Holiday Classic

  • The Heritage High girls basketball team won the Walnut Creek Holiday Classic at Northgate High with a 65-33 victory over Eureka in the finals on Dec. 15. Erin Asher was named the tournament's most valuable player and Sabrina Engelstad was an all-tournament selection After the Holiday Classic, the Patriots improved to 5-2 on the season.

    Patriots reach finals at Don Nelson Classic

  • The Heritage High boys basketball team defeated Amador Valley 54-45 in the semifinals before it lost to Dublin 66-63 in the championship game of the Don Nelson Classic on Dec. 15. Shon Briggs and led the Patriots with 19 points.

  • Lou Bronzan Wrestling Tournament at Liberty, wrestling, Dec. 21-22, TBA -- The Lou Bronzan wrestling tournament will take place over a two-day span, starting at 9 a.m. on Dec. 21.

  • Deer Valley vs. McClymonds at Premier Invitational, boys basketball, Dec. 22, 4 p.m. -- The Wolverines travel to Newark Memorial High to compete in the Premier Invitational against McClymonds.

  • Heritage at Castro Valley, boys basketball, Dec. 21, 7 p.m. -- The Heritage boys basketball team will head to Castro Valley to face off against the Trojans high powered offense.

  • Holiday Classic All-Star Game, football, Dec. 22, 1 p.m. -- Stars from Alameda and Contra Costa counties will get another chance to impress the college scouts while playing for bragging rights at Pittsburg High.

  • Erin Asher, Heritage girls basketball -- Asher was named tournament MVP after leading the Patriots to a 63-55 win over Eureka in the championship game of the Walnut Creek Holiday Classic.

  • Jamie Baron, Heritage girls soccer -- Baron scored two goals in the Patriots 5-0 win over Berean Christian in a nonleague contest on Dec. 13.

  • Cydnee Kinslow, Freedom girls basketball -- Kinslow pulled down 25 rebounds and blocked 10 shots in a 50-44 victory over Chavez on Dec. 13.

  • Tiapepe Vitale, De La Salle football -- The senior running back rushed for 143 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Spartans to their fourth straight CIF Open Division state title on Dec. 15. De La Salle beat Centennial-Corona 48-28.
