OAKLEY -- A man died Sunday afternoon in the parking lot of a Main Street supermarket from what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

A search for the Oakley man began Sunday at about 1:40 p.m. after Oakley police received a report that he was suicidal, armed with a gun and left his home in a car, police said.

The man, who police did not identify, was found at 3 p.m. in the Lucky's parking lot, according to police. He was suffering from a gunshot wound, believed to be self-inflicted, police said.

Police and fire crews performed CPR on the man but were unsuccessful. He died at the scene.
