CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas—Walter Furley, a South Texas journalist who spent 45 years as a television reporter and anchor in Corpus Christi, has died.
Patricia Furley says her husband died Wednesday night at home under hospice care. She says her husband had non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Furley was 84.
Furley was a reporter, anchor and eventually news director at KZTV-TV. He retired in May 2002.
Furley was born in Marble Falls. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1949 with a journalism degree.
Furley worked at KSIX-AM in Corpus Christi for two years before entering the military and serving in Japan and Korea. He worked in radio in New York before joining KZTV-TV in 1957.
Furley is also survived by a son, Ric Furley.
Arrangements are pending for a memorial service in Corpus Christi.
