LONDON -- Former Saint Mary's College star Patty Mills scored 20 points to lead Australia to an 81-61 victory over China on Thursday for its first win in the Olympic men's basketball tournament.
Mills, who had made just 1 of 14 shots from 3-point range in his first two games, converted 4 of 8. Matthew Dellavedova, ready to begin his senior season at Saint Mary's, contributed seven points and a team-best five assists.
Forward David Andersen scored 15 of his 17 points in the first half as Australia took a 49-33 halftime lead.
Mills, a guard recently re-signed by the San Antonio Spurs, had 12 points in the big first half.
Guard Wang Shipeng hit three consecutive 3-pointers early in the third quarter to help China (0-3) cut the deficit to nine points and Australia led 61-52 heading into the fourth.
But Australia opened the final stanza with a 3-pointer from Dellavedova to open a 12-point lead and cruised the rest of the way.
Wang Shipeng finished with 21 points, all of them from 3-pointers. He made seven of 10.
Yi Jianlian, who plays for the Washington Wizards, had a double-double (13 points, 12 rebounds) for China. Former Cal player Max Zhang scored two points.
Meanwhile, Tony Parker, wearing goggles to protect an eye injured in a nightclub brawl, scored 27 points and Nicolas Batum added 21 Thursday to lead France to an 82-74 victory over Lithuania.

Parker sank a 3-pointer to finish a 10-2 run that gave France a 59-52 lead at the end of third quarter and Lithuania never got closer than six after that.
"My legs felt very good today. I was able to run, penetrate, score," said Parker, the San Antonio Spurs point guard whose scored seven of France's last eight points.
Reserve Martynas Pocius led Lithuania with 18 points. Linas Kleiza, who plays for the Toronto Raptors, added 17.
Lithuania (1-2) needs a win, but next up is the U.S.
"We are going to play as hard as we can," coach Kestutis Kemzura said.
In other action, Manu Ginobili scored 24 points and keyed a second-quarter run to help Argentina beat Tunisia 92-69.
Carlos Delfino added 21 points and Luis Scola had 20 as Argentina's NBA stars pounded winless Tunisia. Scola plays for the Phoenix Suns and Delfino is with the Milwaukee Bucks.
Argentina (2-1) played without New York Knicks-bound forward Pablo Prigioni, who is suffering from kidney stones.
Salah Mejri finished with 19 points for Tunisia and Mourad El Mabrouk had 16.
