LONDON -- American David Boudia won a gold medal in 10-meter platform diving on Saturday at the Olympics, one day after barely qualifying for the finals.
Boudia, a 23-year-old, two-time Olympian from Abilene, Texas, scored 568.65 points. In the prelims, Boudia was 18th, just squeezing into the final spot in the final.
Earlier, he and teammate Nick McCrory won bronze in the 10-meter synchronized platform event.
China's Qui Bo, the heavy favorite, settled for the silver with 566.85 points and Great Britain's Tom Silver took the bronze in 556.95, the first Brit to win a platform medal since 1960.
McCrory was ninth with 505.40 points.
