STANFORD -- Stanford sophomore Rachael Flatt, the 2010 U.S. champion and a '10 Olympian, won't compete for the rest of the figure skating season because of a right lower leg and ankle injury.

"I will focus on getting healthy while pursuing my academic goals," she said Tuesday in a statement. "I am saddened that I will miss out on this season, but I feel it is my responsibility to take care of my general well-being."

Flatt has tried to maintain her skating career with coaches Justin Dillon and Lynn Smith in San Jose while carrying a full academic load at Stanford.
