Cougars fall in tournament final
The Northgate volleyball tournament on Oct. 31 offered a nice preview of the upcoming NCS Division III playoffs with all four semifinal teams hailing from that division. Campolindo beat Miramonte for the first time in three tries this season in the semifinals to make the tournament finals. There, the Cougars lost to another Division III team, Analy, 25-21, 25-21. Falcons take DVAL Tournament
Maggie Schoemann scored two goals and the College Park High School girls water polo team defeated Northgate 5-3 on Oct. 31 to win the DVAL Tournament. The Falcons earned the No. 9 seed and played No. 24 Ukiah at De La Salle on Nov. 4. Results of that game were unavailable at press time.— Ben Enos
Knights top Mats in girls water polo
Las Lomas' girls water polo team got a bit of revenge against Miramonte with a 7-3 win on Oct. 28. Last year the Matadors ended the Knights' season in NCS quarterfinals and also won the two teams' DFAL matchup. Melissa Bartow scored three goals for the Knights, who broke open a 2-2 tie at halftime with four goals in the third quarter.— Stephanie Hammon,

The Mt. Diablo High School football team got its biggest win of the year so far on Oct. 30, beating visiting College Park 20-19. The Red Devils didn't even complete a pass, instead relying on RB Deon Turner to carry the load. Turner responded in kind, scoring two touchdowns in the win.— Ben Enos

Concord at Ygnacio Valley, football, Nov. 7, 1 p.m. — The winner of this cross-town shootout will be in the driver's seat for the DVAL title with just one week left in the regular season. Mt. Diablo at Northgate, football, Nov. 7, 1 p.m. — The DVAL competition has not been kind to the Broncos. John Holland, Miramonte water polo — Holland scored four goals in the Matadors' 16-13 win over Las Lomas in the DFAL finale, helping Miramonte earn the No. 2 seed in the NCS playoffs. Tyler Malley, Acalanes football — Malley rushed for 219 yards and three touchdowns in the Dons' 35-21 win over Dublin on Oct. 30. R.J. Cellini, Alhambra football — Cellini threw two touchdowns and ran for another in a 49-10 win over host Dougherty Valley on Oct. 30. Maggie Schoemann, College Park girls water polo — Schoemann led the Falcons with two goals in a 5-3 win over Northgate on Oct. 31 in the championship game of the DVAL Tournament. Lauren Contreras, Las Lomas golf — Contreras shot a 3-over 75 in the NCS South Qualifier at Las Positas Golf Course on Oct. 26, earning her a spot at the NCS Tournament of Champions. Nick Cooper, De La Salle water polo — Cooper scored five goals and assisted on six more to help the Spartans beat visiting California 18-12 on Oct. 29. Lani Tittle and Mia Tittle, Northgate girls water polo — Lani scored scored four goals in a DVAL tournament semifinal win over Clayton Valley on Oct. 28 while Mia led the Broncos with two goals in a loss to College Park in the championship game on Oct. 31. Deon Turner, Mt. Diablo football — Turner's 20 carries for 88 yards and two touchdowns were a big reason that Mt. Diablo scored a 20-19 win over visiting College Park on Oct. 30.
