Youth Theatre Company has September auditions
Civic Arts Education's Youth Theatre Company will hold auditions for its various planned Junior Theatre and Teen Theatre productions Sept. 13 and 15 at the Shadelands Auditorium, 111 N. Wiget Lane in Walnut Creek.
Auditions for take place Sept. 13 and 15.
No audition is required for Mini Kids or Kids Theatre programs.
This year, Junior Theatre will perform "Pirates of Penzance" and "Little Mermaid." The group will also travel to Atlanta in January to compete in the Broadway Jr. Festival.
Teen Theatre will present "Once Upon a Mattress" and "Beauty and the Beast." Audition reservations can be made after Aug. 13 by calling 925-943-5846. Please prepare a song and monologue. For more information, go to www.youththeatrecompany.org.
Book illustrations now at Shadelands
Carole Dwinnel, who created the illustrations for the children's book "Handsome Bill, Adventures in the Desert," is currently showing her work at the Shadelands Art Center, 111 N. Wiget Lane, Walnut Creek.

Center REP's 'Lucky Stiff' runs through Oct. 7
Center REPertory Company's 2012-2013 season opens at the end of August with its production of "Lucky Stiff," which runs through Oct. 7 at the Lesher Center for the Arts in downtown Walnut Creek.
"Lucky Stiff" is a farce set in Monte Carlo that features a "Weekend at Bernie's" component. The words and music for this romantic murder mystery come from the Tony Award-winning team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty ("Ragtime"), behind Ragtime.

Diablo Women's Chorale launches fall season
Diablo Women's Chorale welcomes new members for fall rehearsals of its 70th holiday program "Stars," with rehearsals Monday evenings beginning Sept. 3 from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 399 Wiget Lane.
The chorale invites interested singers to arrange an informal audition with Director Mary Sorenson (925-256-8961) and rehearsals on Sept. 3 and 10.
"Stars" will be performed at St. Matthew the afternoon of Dec. 8. The program will include holiday and seasonal songs from the classical, pop, spiritual, jazz and Broadway traditions, some accompanied by a jazz ensemble.
Sight singing lessons are provided, as well as practice recording and CDs . More experienced singers have opportunities for solos and small group ensembles.
