Acalanes' 'Sugar' performs March 6-9

The curtain raises for Acalanes High School Performing Arts' production of "Sugar," a musical version of "Some Like it Hot, " at 7 p.m. each night March 6-9.

The student-run production is a collaboration of the choral, drama and instrumental departments.

All performances will be at the Acalanes High School Performing Arts Center, 1200 Pleasant Hill Road, Lafayette. Tickets are $14-$16; go to www.ahsperformingarts.org

Moraga Summer Camp Expo

Information about summer camps will be available at an expo Saturday in Moraga.

The sneak preview includes opportunities to meet camp staff, participate in sports demonstrations and early registration discounts.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hacienda de las Flores, 2100 Donald Drive, Moraga.

Contra Costa honor jazz bands perform Sunday

The 13th anniversary of the Lafayette Jazz Festival, presented by Generations in Jazz Foundation, will celebrate Contra Costa Counties' best young jazz musicians performing Sunday beginning at 3 p.m. in the Campolindo High School Performing Arts Center at the with Middle and High School Honor Jazz Bands.

The Middle School Jazz Band will have the benefit of one of Bay Area's jazz greats, Mary Fettig, directing. Fettig joined the Stan Kenton Orchestra as the first woman to play in the band. She also has toured with Flora Purim and Airto, Marian McPartland, Tito Puente, Toninho Horta and Joe Henderson.

The guest director for the High School Jazz Band will be Rory Snyder, in demand as a jazz adjudicator, clinician and guest artist. He has been part of the Mike Vax Jazz Orchestra and Dave Eshelman's Jazz Garden Big Band, and has worked with Clark Terry, Johnny Mathis and The Temptations.
