Military Scholarships

The Contra Costa Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, which meets regularly in Lafayette, awarded two scholarships at its May 30 meeting. The winners are Ramona Peterson, a Navy veteran with eight years of service pursing a degree in photography at Las Positas College in Livermore; and Catalina Thompson, a Navy ROTC student at Berkeley since August 2010, who ranks in the top 10 percent of her ROTC class in military aptitude, and is studying marine science at UC-Berkeley. Founded in 1929 for retired officers in Los Angeles, MOAA was reorganized in 1978 to include all officers. The Contra Costa Chapter is over 50 years old, and has about 40 members.
