ORINDA -- Six scouts from Troop 233 received their Eagle Scout awards at their National Court of Honor on June 2 at Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church. The boys earned the awards by completing six different community service projects. The new Eagle Scouts are
Zach Brooks, Jim Coon, Matt Riggins, Ryan Riggins and Neil Tripathi.
Zachary Brooks built and filled a ten foot by twenty foot sandbox for Castle Rock Regional Recreation Area in Walnut Creek. He also removed the old sandbox and sand. Brooks is a sophomore at Miramonte High School.
Jim Coon constructed ten wood duck nesting boxes with marine grade plywood mounted on ten foot steel posts and installed five nesting boxes set in concrete at the remote end of the Upper San Leandro Reservoir. Coon is a sophomore at Campolindo High School.
Connor McDonald installed numbered disks to trail markers in Briones Regional Park benefiting hikers, mountain bikers, ranchers, animals and search and rescue efforts. McDonald is a sophomore at Miramonte High School.
Matthew Riggins refurbished all the benches on the trail surrounding the Lafayette Reservoir recreation area. Riggins is a senior at Miramonte High School.
Ryan Riggins installed backpack cubbies for the first through third grade classes at Glorietta Elementary School in Orinda. Riggins graduated from Miramonte High School.
