The MLS disciplinary committee fined FC Dallas coach Schellas Hyndman an undisclosed amount for public criticism of the officials after a game against the Earthquakes, the league announced Wednesday.

Hyndman was furious after Steven Lenhart scored in the 95th minute as league-leading San Jose escaped with a 3-3 draw Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.

When asked by this newspaper what Dallas needs to do to earn a playoff spot, Hyndman replied: "I think we need to get some good officiating and continue to score three goals."

He complained referee Geoff Gamble failed to call enough fouls on the Quakes' players.

"They were called for zero fouls in the first half against eight or nine," Hyndman said. "That's the game. And we get three yellow cards for trying to protect ourselves."

  • San Jose State's Ryan Otten was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. The senior had eight receptions for 94 yards in the Spartans' 12-0 win at Navy on Saturday.

  • Freshman Alan Williams scored in the 96th minute to give the Saint Mary's men's soccer team (5-2-3, 1-1-1 WCC) a 1-0 overtime win over visiting Santa Clara (5-5, 2-1). The winning play began with a run up the flank by defender Nathan Arambula. A pass to Tariq Adam (Santa Clara High) found the midfielder open on the left side of the box. Adam then sent a cross through the mouth of the goal, and Williams converted.

  • Yuri Suguiyama, a club coach from the Washington, D.C. area, was named assistant men's swimming coach at Cal, head coach David Durden announced. Suguiyama replaces Greg Meehan, who was named head women's coach at Stanford in August.
