Negotiations on a contract extension for R.A. Dickey are the only thing holding up a trade between the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays, FoxSports.com reported Sunday.

The report said the reigning N.L. Cy Young Award winner has until Tuesday at 11 a.m. PT to agree to the extension with the Blue Jays. Dickey currently is under contract for 2013 at $5 million and has sought an additional $26 million to $28 million over two years from the Mets.

An official involved in the trade discussions said Toronto catching prospect Travis d'Arnaud would be the centerpiece coming to New York in any deal.

NHL

The league and players association didn't talk, the 92nd day of a lockout that is threatening to wipe out an entire season for the second time in nine years. Players started voting on whether to have their union give up collective bargaining rights, a "disclaimer of interest" that could be a precursor to an antitrust suit. The league argued in a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court in New York that the union's actions were a bargaining maneuver and asked that the lockout be declared legal.

  • Charl Schwartzel was a runaway winner for the second straight week on the European Tour, coasting to a 12-shot victory at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in Malelane, South Africa. The 2011 Masters champion shot a 3-under 69 to finish at 24-under 264.

    Lionel Messi scored twice and reached 90 goals for the calendar year, leading Barcelona (15-0-1) over second-place Atletico Madrid (12-3-1) 4-1 in the Spanish league. Messi already broke the record of 85 goals in a year for club and country, set by Gerd Mueller of Bayern Munich and West Germany in 1972. The Argentine has 34 goals for Barcelona this year.

    Tina Maze won her fourth straight World Cup women's giant slalom with a two-run time of 2 minutes, 16.84 seconds. Kathrin Zettel finished 0.22 seconds back at Courchevel, France. Lindsey Vonn failed to finish her first run. "Hit a rock on my left ski and skied off course," she said. U.S. teammate Julia Mancuso was sixth at 2:19.17.

  • American Ted Ligety cruised to his third World Cup giant slalom win of the season with a two-run time of 2:37.27. Marcel Hirscher was second, 2.04 seconds behind in Alta Badia, Italy.

    College basketball

    Brandon Paul scored 17 points, and No. 10 Illinois (12-0) pulled away late for a 66-53 victory over visiting Eastern Kentucky (9-1). The Colonels came in riding the school's best start in 66 years.

  • Le'Bryan Nash had 19 points, and No. 24 Oklahoma State (9-1) posted a 91-63 win over visiting Central Arkansas (4-4).
