Quarterback Kevin Hogan completed 51-yard strikes to Ty Montgomery and Michael Rector against blitzing defense and finished with 130 yards passing on just five completions during Stanford's third open practice scrimmage on Saturday.

Backup Evan Crower completed 12 of 15 passes for 85 yards including two touchdown passes.

The Cardinal & White Spring Game is at Stanford Stadium on Saturday at 3 p.m.

S.J. Giants

Ryan Cavan and Devin Harris hit back-to-back homers to open lead off the fourth inning, and the Giants won 6-2 at Visalia. Kyle Crick and four relievers combined to allow four hits for the Giants.

College baseball

No. 25 Stanford pounded out a season-high 17 hits in a 10-3 win at USC. Six Cardinal batters had multi-hit days, led by Alex Blandino (St. Francis High) and Danny Diekroeger (Menlo School) with three each.

  • Matt Carroll (Valley Christian Hig) went 3-for-5 to improve his average to .360 and help San Jose State to a 7-1 win over visiting Louisiana Tech. Carroll's two-run double in the eighth inning gave San Jose State a 7-1 lead.

  • Justin Jones allowed four runs (all earned) and six hits in the first inning, and the Cal baseball team lost 6-4 to defending national champion Arizona in Tucson.

  • Santa Clara fell to 0-9 in the WCC after a 5-2 loss to visiting BYU. Greg Harisis was 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Broncos.

    Softball

    No. 5 Cal split a doubleheader with No. 10 Oregon -- losing 5-1 and winning 3-1 at Levine-Fricke Field in Berkeley. Danielle Henderson had two solo home runs in second game.

  • No. 14 Stanford lost a doubleheader to No. 2 Arizona State -- 12-6 and 11-2 in six innings at Smith Family Stadium.

  • San Jose State swept its 10th doubleheader of the season, 10-7 and 6-3 over visiting Seattle. Michelle Cox led the Spartans, going 6-for-8 with three runs and two RBIs.

    Miscellany

    The Stanford women's gymnastics team placed second at the Norman (Okla.) Regional to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships in Los Angeles on April 19-21. The Cardinal's Ivana Hong won regional titles on vault and beam, and Ashley Morgan won the floor.

  • Stanford junior Kori Carter ran the 400-meter hurdles in 54.71 seconds at the Jim Click Shootout track and field meet on Saturday, shattering her own school record while running the fastest time in the world this year.

  • The San Francisco Bulls beat the Alaska Aces 1-0 in Anchorage to even the best-of-seven playoff series at 1-1. Game 3 is Thursday at the Cow Palace.
