Devin Harris and Angel Villalona both hit three-run home runs, sparking the San Jose Giants to a 10-5 Cal League win over the Modesto Nuts at Municipal Stadium on Wednesday night.

Giants starter Edwin Escobar had nine strikeouts in just 41/3 innings. He threw 76 pitches, allowing one run and four hits.

Relievers Carlos Teller, Luis Rojas (1-1) and Drew Bowlin combined to strike out 10 in 42/3 innings as the Giants improved to 14-6.

Colleges

Stanford pitcher Mark Appel is one of 10 NCAA Division I baseball finalists for the Senior CLASS Award. It's given to student-athletes who excel on and off the field. The winner will be announced during the College World Series (June 15-26) in Omaha, Neb.

  • The No. 15 Stanford softball team (29-16) fell 9-6 at Pacific (28-22). The Cardinal's Leah White and Erin Ashby each hit a three-run homer, but in the bottom of the sixth, Megan Foglesong had a tie-breaking RBI double.

  • Stanford tied for fourth at the Pac-12 Women's Golf Championships, while Cal was 10th at Valencia Country Club. The Cardinal had a three-round total of 18-over 882, and the Bears were at 61-over 925. Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse shot a 1-over 73 and tied for third at 3-under 213. USC won the team title at 11-under 853, and the Trojans' Annie Park was medalist at 7-under 209.

  • San Jose State placed second at the WAC Women's Golf Championship after closing with a 299 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz. The Spartans finished three rounds at 894 -- 12 shots behind Denver. SJSU's Regan De Guzman shot a 1-under 71 to place second at 1-under 215. Teammate Jennifer Brumbaugh (76) was third at 219. Denver's Tonje Daffinrud (69) was medalist at 209.

  • Saint Mary's Dalas Dodd and Jordan Shaw (St. Francis High) were among the 10 teams selected to the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball Championships, which begin May 3 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

  • The Cal rugby team will host Navy in a semifinal of the Varsity Cup National Championships on Saturday at 2 p.m.
