Embroiled in the investigation of the shooting death of a man near his Massachusetts home this week, New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez also is the subject of a lawsuit alleging he shot a man in February, according to court records.
Odin Lloyd, 27, was found dead Monday evening about a mile from Hernandez's home in North Attleborough, Mass.
Lloyd's body was discovered in a clearing not far from a vehicle that had been rented by Hernandez. Police, who have ruled the death a homicide, said Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's girlfriend.
Police, who searched Hernandez's home Tuesday night, executed a search warrant Wednesday for that rental car.
Hernandez declined to speak to the media, while a Patriots spokesman said the team didn't anticipate commenting during the police investigation.
Lloyd's family said he was a semipro player for the Boston Bandits.
"My son is a wonderful child," Lloyd's tearful mother, Ursula Ward, said. "He hasn't done anything to hurt anyone."
Sports Illustrated reported Tuesday that Hernandez was not believed to be a suspect.
Meanwhile, attorney David Jaroslawicz told ESPN he represents Alexander Bradley, the man who claims he was shot by Hernandez after they argued upon leaving a Miami nightclub in February.
