San Jose's Aaron Gordon and Team USA won the FIBA under-19 world championship Sunday with an 82-68 victory over Serbia in Prague, Czech Republic. The Arizona-bound Gordon had six points and six rebounds while limited by foul trouble.

Gordon was named MVP of the tournament after averaging 12.6 points and 6.2 rebounds in nine games.

In the third-place game, Lithuania beat Australia 106-100, despite 20 points and 17 rebounds by Saint Mary's signee Dane Pineau.

Horse racing

Jockey Russell Baze posted his 12,000th career victory, guiding Handful of Pearls to a photo-finish win over Here It Tiz at the Alameda County Fair. It was Baze's fourth win of the day and came in the last race on the fair's final day of racing.

San Jose Giants

Edwin Escobar allowed four hits in seven innings and Ricky Oropesa doubled twice to help the San Jose Giants defeat Lake Elsinore 2-0 at Municipal Stadium for their third straight win.

Santiago Casilla, continuing a rehab assignment, pitched a scoreless inning, and his brother, Jose, finished to earn a save.
