'Scouting for food' set on Saturday

The Piedmont Boy Scouts will be "scouting for food" on Saturday.

The Scouts will pick up food donation bags left on Piedmont porches from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day.

The nonperishable foods will be donated to the Alameda County Food Bank.

You may also drop food bags at Dress Best for Less at 799 Magnolia Ave., Piedmont.

Suggested food donations include dry, packaged beans, rice or pasta, canned soups, canned fish or meat, canned vegetables or fruit, packaged foods such as macaroni and cheese or dinner entree kits.

Donate computers to aid Salvadoran youth

Donate used or refurbished laptop computers to benefit disadvantaged youth in Acajutia, El Salvador.

The nonprofit EDUTECH organization trains young people in computer repair and use.

League is offering two winter programs

The League of Women Voters of Piedmont are presenting two interesting winter programs.

On Nov. 29, Professor Michael Salerno of UC Hastings School of Law will speak on the initiative and referendum process in California at College of Alameda, 555 Ralph Appezzato Memorial Parkway, Alameda.

A holiday luncheon and program is planned from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 12 at 131 LaSalle Ave., Piedmont. Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'Malley will be guest speaker.
