Two people were hospitalized Monday after the driver lost control of the vehicle, crossed multiple lanes of traffic and fell off the freeway, landing on a street about 40 feet below, the California Highway Patrol said.
The accident occurred on Interstate 80 at Pinole Valley Road around 8 p.m. and shut down Pinole Valley Road for close to two hours, said Officer Peter VanEckhardt. The car turned over several times before coming to rest on its roof at a city intersection.
It is not known what caused the accident, but speed may have been a factor.
The driver and passenger were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
