BRENTWOOD -- The Streets of Brentwood Fall Concert Series continues with The Floorshakers (11-piece funk/soul/rock 'n' roll) Sept. 14..

'Beauty and the Beast' set for Friday

'The Spell of Sleeping Beauty' set for Friday
ANTIOCH -- Antioch's Children's Theatre presents "The Spell of Sleeping Beauty" at the Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre.

Antioch's night on the green concert
ANTIOCH -- The Antioch Recreation Department will host a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday at the Anitoch Community Center's outdoor amphitheater.
On stage will be ZZ Top tribute band Beer Drinkerzz & Hell Raiserzz, along with the Nick Carasis Band performing classic rock. Doors open at 6 p.m. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

International film series features 'Montevideo'
ANTIOCH -- The International Film Showcase presents "Montevideo, Taste of a Dream" playing at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21 and 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at El Campanil Theatre, 602 W. Second St.
A huge hit in Serbia, this drama, set in 1930, tells the story of a time when soccer united a nation. Named after the Uruguayan city where the inaugural World Cup event was held, director Bjelogrlic's adaptation of journalist Vladimir Stankovic's best-selling book centers on the relationship between two top players: natural talent/poor boy "Tirke" Tirnanic and playboy/superstar "Mosa" Marjanovic.
The film is part of a new collaborative effort with the International Film Showcase, which has a successful foreign film series in Orinda.

Comedian Don Friesen comes to El Campanil

Carpenters tribute concert in Antioch
ANTIOCH -- Close to You presents a live tribute to The Carpenters at 8 p.m. Saturday at the El Campanil Theatre at 602 W. Second St.
The popular singing duo of the 1970s and early '80s focused on mid-tempo pop and ballads with Karen Carpenter's unique and expressive alto voice on lead vocals.
Michelle Whited performs a stunning presentation by reproducing Karen's unique voice along with Don Stamey on piano. The entire band consists of skilled musicians, assisted by prerecorded background harmonies to attain the exclusive sound of the Carpenters.
Local writers invited to take part in anthology
BRENTWOOD -- The city of Brentwood, Brentwood Writes and Brentwood Poet Laureate Kati Short invite all local writers to submit poetry, short story or nonfiction for an anthology to be published by the city of Brentwood.
Any subject is welcome as long as it is not insulting or abusive. All writers in Pittsburg, Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, Byron, Discovery Bay, Knightsen and Bethel Island, or writers who are regular participants at Brentwood Writes Open Mic, are welcome. High school students are encouraged to contribute. Submissions will be accepted through Sept. 28.

Delta Blues Festival offers music, art, food
ANTIOCH -- The 14th annual Delta Blues Festival is set for noon to 7 p.m. Saturday in downtown Antioch between Second and I streets.
The alcohol-free event will feature music, art, crafts and food vendors. The musical lineup includes the Kenny Neal Band, Gino Matteo, Mo Fo Party Band, BigCat Tolfree, Marshall Law Band and Sam-ONE.

'Night of the Living Dead' auditions

Frank Ballesteros directs this popular ghoulish tale. Auditions are open to actors ages 12 and older. Everyone will have a speaking role.
