Los Medanos places fifth at tournament

  • The Los Medanos College men's basketball team won its consolation game 79-76 against Feather River on Dec. 21 at the Kris Kringle Classic. The following day, the Mustangs went on to win the fifth-place game 65-53 over Shasta on the strength of a balanced offensive attack. With the two victories, the Mustangs improved to 9-4 on the season.

    Heritage squad wins overtime thriller

  • The Heritage High boys basketball team defeated Castro Valley 69-68 in a nonleague game on Dec. 21. In overtime, Shon Briggs hit two clutch free throws with four seconds remaining to seal the win. With the win, the Patriots improved their record to 8-2.

  • West Coast Jamboree, girls basketball, Dec. 27-31, all day -- The West Coast Jamboree features 14 brackets with 120 teams, including four teams from the Bay Valley Athletic League (Deer Valley, Antioch, Heritage, and Freedom).

  • Heritage at Bambauer Classic, boys basketball, Dec. 26-29, TBA -- Heritage will head to Marin Catholic High in Kentfield to compete in the three-day Bambauer Classic.

    Los Medanos at Mendocino, men's basketball, Jan. 2, 7:30 p.m. -- Los Medanos will travel to Mendocino on Jan. 2 to start Bay Valley Conference play.

  • George Johnson, Heritage boys basketball -- Johnson led the Patriots to a big win over Castro Valley on Dec. 21. He scored a game-high 30 points, including six 3-pointers.

  • Patrick Lefiti, Los Medanos men's basketball -- Lefiti scored a game-high 20 points against Feather River and earned all-tournament honors at the Kris Kringle Classic.

  • Javon Primus, Los Medanos men's basketball -- Primus had five of his team's 17 3-pointers in a 79-76 victory over Feather River.
