African Record

A two-week tour beginning Feb. 22 took Martinez residents to Kenya and Tanzania, Africa. At the Ngorongoro Crater, the group, from left, Cynthia Baker, Nancy McCormack, Kaye Severson, Shirley Martin, Julie Wilde, Nancy Hobert, Jana Coleman and Laura Nelson, spotted a rare black rhinoceros. While there, they took a moment with the community news in the Pleasant Hill/Martinez Record. During the trip sponsored by the Martinez Senior Center, they also saw the "big five" -- elephant, Cape buffalo, rhinoceros, lion and leopard -- and dozens of other animals in their natural habitat. A visit to a Masai village in Kenya and seeing Mount Kilimanjaro, which Hobert described as "spectacular" were also part of their "trip of a lifetime."

It doesn't matter if your time away is spent across San Francisco Bay or across the country -- remember to pack the Record to keep up with news of the community, and then show your neighbors where you have been.
