Breslin contributes for USC Diablo Valley College and Las Lomas High product Morgan Breslin is making an impact at USC already. The defensive lineman had five tackles in a 42-29 win at Syracuse on Sept. 8. Two of those tackles were for a loss, and he also recorded a sack. He had the exact same numbers -- five tackles, two for loss, one sack -- in the Trojans' opening-week win over Hawaii.

Broncos topple Alameda Northgate High's football team rolled past Alameda 52-0 on Sept. 7. The Broncos scored 33 points in the first quarter and the defense continued to dominate the rest of the way. Fisi Tavake led the Broncos with 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Seven players scored for Northgate in the rout.

Eagles get first win The Clayton Valley High football team beat host Montgomery-Santa Rosa 57-35 on Sept. 7 to score its first win under new coach Tim Murphy. Joe Protheroe had another good game, scoring on runs of 29, 78 and 83 yards en route to 193 yards on just four carries. The Eagles head north again this week, as they'll take on Vintage-Napa at Napa Memorial Stadium on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Dons are formidable The Acalanes High football team is undefeated three weeks into the season with its latest victory coming against Irvington on Sept. 7. Peter Mitchell scored three touchdowns while DeShawn Johnson tallied 151 rushing yards and two TDs in the 54-7 win. The Dons host Tennyson at 7 p.m. on Sept. 14 before beginning DFAL play the following week.

On deck College Park vs. Pinole Valley at Diablo Valley College, football, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. -- Two teams with aspirations of a spot in the Division II playoffs meet at DVC in an important nonleague game. El Cerrito at Campolindo, football, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. -- During the Cougars' perfect regular season a year ago, the Gauchos pushed Campo before falling 16-13. Both teams enter the rematch undefeated. St. Mary's-Stockton at De La Salle, football, Sept. 14, 7:15 p.m. -- The Spartans look to continue their impressive start to the season with a nonleague contest against the always-solid Rams.
Stars of the week Sandra Foster, Diablo Valley College women's volleyball -- Foster was a leader for the Vikings at the Delta Volleyball Classic on Sept. 7-8 in Stockton. In a second-round loss to Gavilan, she led DVC with 17 kills. In the Vikings' final match, she shifted gears and tallied 26 assists, nine kills, four blocks and 15 digs. Andre Lewis, Diablo Valley College football -- Lewis caught five passes for 71 yards in a 28-26 loss to visiting Santa Rosa on Sept. 7, but three of those catches went for touchdowns as the Utah-bound wideout scored on plays of 23, 12 and 30 yards. Samantha Chan, Campolindo girls golf -- Chan carded a 1-under par 34 at the Moraga Country Club in the Cougars' 255-304 DFAL victory over Las Lomas on Sept. 5. Megan Elms, Clayton Valley girls volleyball -- Elms played the role of defensive ace in a couple Eagles wins. She tallied 14 digs in a win over visiting Alhambra on Sept. 4, then racked up 21 more digs in a win over visiting Antioch on Sept. 6. Wyatt Morrow, Concord football -- Morrow has enjoyed a strong start to his junior season, completing 31 of 45 passes for 318 yards, five touchdowns and one interception in three games. The Minutemen have gone 3-0 to begin the season. Clare Orton, Las Lomas cross country -- Orton won the junior girls race at the Monte Vistat Invitational on Sept. 4 by running the two-mile course in 13:18.92. J.D. Ratchford, Campolindo boys water polo -- The senior scored seven goals to lead the Cougars to a 13-12 victory over De La Salle on Sept. 5. Danny Stalters, Northgate cross country -- Stalters had an excellent week, winning the boys seniors division at the Monte Vista Invitational on Sept. 4, then taking second in the small school race of the Ed Sias Invitational on Sept. 8.
