Volunteers are being sought to become docents at the John Muir National Historic Site in Martinez.

Those interested should be 18 or older and make an ongoing commitment to at least eight hours per month. Docents will assist with visitor center operations, lead tours and help with special events.

Docents are required to complete three training sessions led by National Park Service staff, and attend one date of each training:

  • Training Unit 1 -- Introduction to the National Park Service; 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March 15 or March 16, in Martinez

  • Training Unit 2 -- John Muir and John Muir National Historic Site; 9 a.m.-1 p.m. March or March 23, in Martinez

  • Training Unit 3 -- Tour Tips; 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 13 or April 26, in Richmond
