  • At the Martinez Library, Story Time programs are free.

    Mother Goose Time: 10:30-11:30 a.m. through April 16. There will be stories and songs, followed by a simple craft time. Best for ages 6 months-3 years old.

    Pajama Time: 6:30-7:30 p.m. March 25. At a pajama party, kids can discover the stories of Eric Carle, and meet a hungry caterpillar and watch it transform. A collage and crafts will follow the stories.

    Tween Comix Book Club: 2:15-3 p.m. On March 27, tweens are invited to a graphic novel discussion on "Full Metal Alchemist," "Simpsorama," "Astro Boy," and "American Born Chinese." On April 10, 17, 24, the discussion is on "Persopolis," "Runaways," "Pride and Joy," and "Death: The High Cost of Living."

    Celebrate Spring! 12:30-2:30 p.m. March 23. Kids can celebrate the first day of spring by using a little glitter and a little glue at the library's new arts and crafts drop-in. The program is in conjunction with Martinez Parks and Recreation.

    Knit and Crochet Workshop: 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesdays, March 26, April 2, 9. Kids, teens and adults can register for the workshop sponsored by the Need Arts Association. Participants will work with blue ribbon winners to learn knitting and crochet. Materials are free to those under 18. Registration is free, but required.

    Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Fridays features songs, rhymes, bounces and simple stories. Best for ages 0-3, but all are welcome.

    Afternoon Storytime: 1:15-1:45 p.m. Fridays. There will be songs, rhymes, bounces and simple stories to introduce children ages 0-3 to literacy.

    Preschool Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Thursdays beginning March 7, features stories and songs for preschoolers and toddlers, ages 3-5.

    Saturday Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Saturdays, for babies, preschoolers and kids. There will be stories, songs and more.

    Treefrog Treks: 6:30-7:30 p.m. March 26. Kids ages 5-11 can check out some live reptiles and amphibians, like the rat snake and the bearded dragon.

    Lego Creators Club: 2-3 p.m. Saturdays. Kids ages 5-11 can let their imaginations run wild at the weekly get-together. There will be new themes, tips and challenges, plus book tie-ins to take home.

    Wii Wednesdays for Teens: 3-4:30 p.m. April 3, 17. Teens are invited meet others and play games on the library's Wii system.

    Pleasant Hill Teen Advisory Group (TAG): 3:30-5 p.m. April 10. Teens ages 13-18 can meet other teens and the young adult librarian every second Wednesday of the month in Room A to create fun programs and suggest new resources. Participants can receive volunteer hours for their time.

    Reading Recommendations for Book Lovers: 6:30-8 p.m. April 9. Adults can get recommendations from Ron Shoop, a representative from Random House, who will share titles suitable for book clubs or chats. There will be a free raffle for a bag of books. A local bookstore will be on hand to sell any of the titles participants are interested in, with a percentage of the proceeds benefiting Project Second Chance, the library's adult literacy program.

    Afternoon Book Discussion: 1-2:30 p.m. April 5. Adults can read with others at the library and discuss "The Paris Wife," by Paula McLain.

    Volunteer Orientation: 3-4 p.m. March 30, April 13, 27. Teens and adults can apply to be a library volunteer. Participants will tour the library with a trained staff member who will give them the details of volunteering.

    One-On-One Computer Tutor: 11 a.m.-noon and noon-1 p.m. March 27. Adults can schedule an appointment for a one-hour, one-on-one computer training session to learn the basics.

    Las Juntas Artists Association: In partnership with the library, each month the group exhibits the works of different artists during regular library hours. In March, the watercolor paintings of Ruth McMillin are on display.
