Vikings pick up first conference win The Diablo Valley College baseball team beat San Joaquin Delta 8-2 on March 23 for its first Big 8 Conference victory of the season. Diablo Valley led 2-1 in the eighth inning when it scored six runs to help put the game away and improve its conference record to 1-7. Devin Alexander, Nick Gavello and Michael Brdar each had two hits in the win.
Eddleston's no-hitter lead Warriors Senior pitcher Daniel Eddleston threw a no-hitter to lead the Ygnacio Valley High baseball team to a 6-3 nonleague win over Salesian on March 23. Eddleston finished with 14 strikeouts and six walks for the Warriors, who improved their nonleague record to 5-3 with the win.
Cougars earn comeback win in lacrosse The Campolindo boys lacrosse team trailed 8-5 at halftime but scored six goals in the second half to earn a 11-10 victory over Las Lomas in a March 22 Diablo Foothill Athletic League game. Kevin Hull and Bill Evenhuis both scored three goals in the win, and Hull added two assists as Campolindo improved its record to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the DFAL.
Eagles take third in Cloverdale The Berean Christian softball team took third place at the Cloverdale Tournament, wrapping up the event with a 9-0 win over St. Helena in the third place game. Athena Golling went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and also struck out nine as she pitched a complete game. Layne Calley and Alyse Butterfield also had two hits each in the win. Golling and Eagles sophomore Tia Uyehara were both named to the All-Tournament team.
On deck College Park at Concord, baseball, March 28, 4 p.m. -- The Falcons travel to Concord to face the Minutemen in a key early-season Diablo Valley Athletic League game. Stanford Invitational, track and field, March 29-30, Stanford -- A number of local teams have entrants in this elite invitational. The first high school event starts at 1:50 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.
Stars of the week Mikey Eggleton, College Park basketball -- The senior guard scored a team-high 14 points as the Falcons lost to Redondo Union-Redondo Beach in the California Interscholastic Federation Division II championship game on March 23 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. Daniel Eddleston, Ygnacio Valley baseball -- Eddleston, a senior, threw a no-hitter and had 14 strikeouts to lead the Warriors past Salesian 6-3 in a March 23 nonleague game. Athena Golling, Berean Christian softball -- Golling went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and also struck out nine to lead the Eagles past St. Helena 9-0 in the third place game of the Cloverdale Tournament. Kevin Hull, Campolindo boys lacrosse -- Hull had three goals and two assists to lead the Cougars past Las Lomas 11-10 in a March 22 DFAL game. Kerianne Hunt, Carondelet lacrosse -- Hunt had four goals and two assists to lead the Cougars past foothill 20-4 in a March 22 East Bay Athletic League game. Tyler Rossi, Concord boys volleyball -- The junior setter had 37 assists to lead the Minutemen to a 25-13, 25-12, 25-27, 25-10 nonleague win over Alhambra on March 22. Erin Schoenfeld, Miramonte girls swimming -- Schoenfeld, a junior, won the 100 backstroke (59.32), the 200 individual medley and swam a leg in the victorious 200 medley relay team to help the Matadors beat Dublin 125-40 in a DFAL meet.
