Falcons start to hit their stride

  • The College Park High baseball team had a rough start to the 2013 season but has started to find a groove. The Falcons had won seven of their last eight games entering this week, including three of four games at the Cunningham Easter Classic at Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose. In the third place game at the Cunningham Easter Classic against Monte Vista on April 6, starting pitcher Nick Burnham allowed one run in five inning and struck out three, and Joe DeMers went 2 for 3 with a walk.

    Minutemen edge Santa Rosa for title

  • The Concord High softball team defeated Santa Rosa 1-0 on April 6 to win the HASA Tournament championship in Antioch. Senior outfielder Monique Cook went 3 for 3 with two stolen bases and Alicia Rivett scored the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Concord wrapped up pool play on April 6 with a 17-2 win over Richmond. Amber Golini scored three runs and had two RBIs in the win. The Minutemen entered this week with a 10-3 record.

    Knights search for consistency

  • The Las Lomas High baseball team has some quality wins to its credit so far this season but is looking to become more consistent in the second half of the season. The Knights' best win this season came March 21 when they upset Acalanes 5-1, but Las Lomas followed that up with a 4-1 loss to Freedom. Las Lomas hosts Campolindo on April 11 and plays at Miramonte on April 18.

    Acalanes is off to strong start

  • The Acalanes High softball team enters this week on a five-game winning streak as it looks to remain in the hunt for the Diablo Foothill Athletic League title. The Dons, who beat Tamalpais-Mill Valley 5-4 on March 29, hosted Dougherty Valley play at Dublin on April 16 and host league favorite Alhambra on April 18.

  • Clayton Valley at Northgate, boys lacrosse, April 12, 5 p.m. -- The Broncos will look to continue their solid start to the season when they host the Eagles in a DVAL game.

  • San Ramon Valley Invitational, boys volleyball, April 13, all day -- Some of the area's top teams will be showcased at San Ramon Valley High in Danville.

  • Freedom Invitational, boys golf, April 15, 4 p.m. -- Freedom High in Oakley hosts its annual invitational next week at Shadow Lakes Golf Club in Brentwood. The event begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

  • Alhambra at Campolindo, baseball, April 16, 6 p.m. -- The Bulldogs travel to Moraga to face the Cougars in what could be a key DFAL clash. Alhambra is coming off a second place finish at its own tournament, and the Cougars are ready to chase another league title.

  • Nick Burnham, College Park baseball -- Burnham allowed just one run in five innings and struck out three to lead the Falcons past Monte Vista in the third place game at the Cunningham Easter Classic in San Jose.

  • Erin Enke, Alhambra softball -- Enke led the Bulldogs to a 4-1 record and a fifth place finish at the Livermore Stampede at Robertson Park. Enke and teammate Kylee Perez were each named to the All-Tournament team.

  • Monique Cook, Concord softball -- In a 14-4 win over Dougherty Valley on March 30, Bond went 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBI. In 10 games, she's hitting .654.
