Almost 200 Sea Scouts and leaders descended on the Martinez Marina on Saturday for the annual Seafarers Regatta, hosted by the Martinez-based Sea Scout Ship Albatross. Nautical and timed events tested the young mariners in many disciplines, including tying knots, rowing, knowledge of code flags, radio communication, compass-bearing skills and more. Among the 14 teams competing from throughout the Bay Area was the SSS Maki 700, above, with sailors T.J. Hawes, 14, left, and Gavin Halloran, 14, both of Castro Valley, participating in a bucket-fill activity. MSS Tradewind Scouts, left, row their boats to the starting line before the start of their race. The Albatross, skippered by Adam Mollwitz, finished second overall.
