  • At the Martinez Library, Story Time programs are free.

    Mother Goose Time: 10:30-11:30 a.m. through April 30. There will be stories and songs, followed by a simple craft time. Best for ages 6 months-3 years old.

    Drop-In Crafts Arbor Day Celebration: 1-3 p.m. April 20. Kids are invited to drop in for some arts and crafts fun with an Arbor Day theme. There will be some glitter and glue to make the creations. Presented by Martinez Parks and Recreation.

    Pajama Party Storytime and Crafts: 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 29. Kids 3-7 (best for ages 4-6) can come in their jammies to listen to a story and make their own shadow puppets.

    Tween Comix Book Club: 2:15-3 p.m. On April 24, the discussion is on "Persopolis," "Runaways," "Pride and Joy," and "Death: The High Cost of Living."

    Summertime Beading with Yolanda: 4:30-5:30 p.m. May 7. Teens and adults are invited to create jewelry with beading designs inspired by Yolanda. The class is free and all materials are provided. Registration is required and limited to the first 15 participants.

    Food Science: 6:15-7:30 p.m. May 21. Middle schoolers and teens can make bottle rockets in the reading garden, construct edible DNA models and create glow-in-the-dark drink, plus more, in a Food Science workshop. Sign-ups are welcome, but not required.

    Martinez Library Volunteer Appreciation Week: All day April 22-27 (library closed April 25). Library patrons can sign volunteer appreciation cards which will be displayed in the lobby.

    La Di Da Vocal Quartet: 6:30-7:30 p.m. April 23. Adults can celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with a vocal performance by La Di Da, Bay Area locals who specialize in a cappella jazz, standards, barbershop and contemporary music.

    Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Fridays features songs, rhymes, bounces and simple stories. Best for ages 0-3, but all are welcome.

    Afternoon Storytime: 1:15-1:45 p.m. Fridays. There will be songs, rhymes, bounces and simple stories to introduce children ages 0-3 to literacy.

    Preschool Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Thursdays, features stories and songs for preschoolers and toddlers, ages 3-5.

    Saturday Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Saturdays, for babies, preschoolers and kids. There will be stories, songs and more.

    Astroblast! 6:30-8 p.m. April 30. The Chabot Space and Science Center brings the whole universe to the library. Kids can find out what it's like to be an astronaut, visit the Star Lab and look at the sky with the Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society.

    Lego Creators Club: 2-3 p.m. Saturdays. Kids ages 5-11 can let their imaginations run wild at the weekly get-together. There will be new themes, tips and challenges, plus book tie-ins to take home.

    Wii Wednesdays for Teens: 3-4:30 p.m. May 1, 15, 29. Teens are invited meet others and play games on the library's Wii system.

    Pleasant Hill Teen Advisory Group (TAG): 3:30-5 p.m. May 8. Teens ages 13-18 can meet other teens and the young adult librarian to create fun programs and suggest new resources. Participants can receive volunteer hours for their time.

    Contra Costa Teen Chess Club: 3-5 p.m. Fridays. Students 12-17 can get instruction and participate in friendly matches and tournaments. Games are in the Baldwin Room and participants who have them are encouraged to bring their own chess board and pieces.

    Pleasant Hill Library Book Discussion: 6:30 p.m. in Room A. On May 21, the discussion will be on Malcolm Gladwell's "Outliers: The Story of Success."

    Afternoon Book Discussion: 1-2:30 p.m. May 3. Adults can read with others at the library and discuss "The Likeness" by Tana French.

    Volunteer Orientation: 3-4 p.m. April 27. Teens and adults can apply to be a library volunteer. Participants will tour the library with a trained staff member.

    English Conversation Practice for Adults: 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Adults can practice speaking and listening to English in a casual group.

    Las Juntas Artists Association: Each month the group exhibits the works of different artists during regular library hours. In April, the acrylic paintings of Pete Miller will be on display.
