New compressed natural gas trucks used by Allied Waste Services, which produce up to 22.8 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than comparable diesel models, were unveiled during an Earth Day ceremony at the Pacheco facility. The trucks cost $330,000 each, save on fuel, are easier for the driver to control and run more quietly. Alliedís parent company, Republic Services, currently has 55 of the compressed natural gas trucks, with more on the way.

New compressed natural gas trucks used by Allied Waste Services, which produce up to 22.8 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than comparable diesel models, were unveiled during an Earth Day ceremony at the Pacheco facility. The trucks cost $330,000 each, save on fuel, are easier for the driver to control and run more quietly. Allied's parent company, Republic Services, currently has 55 of the compressed natural gas trucks, with more on the way. Elected officials from throughout Contra Costa County were on hand as were representatives of regional offices and area chambers of commerce.
