  • At the Martinez Library, Story Time programs are free.

    Mother Goose Time: 10:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesdays, through Aug. 13. There will be stories and songs, followed by a simple craft time. Best for ages 6 months-3 years old.

    Summer Pajama Party Toys Alive: 6:30-7:30 p.m. June 24. Tots can wear their jammies and listen to music and stories about toys, followed by a craft.

    Ice Cream Workshop: 1:30-2:30 p.m. July 8. Kids ages 5-11 will learn about the science of ice cream, then shake up a dessert. Participants should bring their favorite topping to share. Registration is required to ensure there are enough ingredients for everyone.

    Sci-Fi Sundaes: 1-3 p.m. July 20. Teens and middle school students can build and eat ice cream sundaes while talking about their favorite science fiction or fantasy books with other teens and playing board games. Register by July 20.

    Knit and Crochet Classes: 6-7:30 p.m. July 8, 16, 23, 30 and Aug. 6, 12. Kids and teens can learn the about knitting and crochet and a six-week workshop sponsored by the Helping Hands Foundation and the National Needle Arts Association. Adults 18 and older are welcome, but supplied materials may be limited. Registration is required.

    Reading Is So Delicious Summer Reading Program: Through Aug. 17. Reading records will be available in all branches or online at ccclib.org, and kids, teens and adults can pick one up and earn prizes for reading.

    Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Fridays features songs, rhymes, bounces and simple stories. Best for ages 0-3, but all are welcome.

    Afternoon Storytime: 1:15-1:45 p.m. Fridays. There will be songs, rhymes, bounces and simple stories to introduce children ages 0-3 to literacy.

    Preschool Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Thursdays, features stories and songs for preschoolers and toddlers, ages 3-5.

    Saturday Storytime: 11:15-11:45 a.m. Saturdays, for babies, preschoolers and kids. There will be stories, songs and more.

    Air Show: 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 25. Kids can fold and fly airplanes in a wind tunnel and air cannon to find out what makes things fly. There will also be an exhibition of aircraft from the Diablo Valley Radio Controllers, including a quadrocopter.

    World Party -- A Multiethnic Extravaganza: 2-4 p.m. Kids, teens and all ages are invited to celebrate world cultures through dance, music, crafts, snacks and games. There will be activities from India, Mexico, Japan, Afghanistan and Spain.

    Fur Scales & Tails: 6:30-7:30 p.m. July 30. Kids ages 5-11 can see and touch more than 17 different animals, including hamsters, snakes, lizards, tarantulas, chickens, hairless rats and more.

    Pleasant Hill Teen Advisory Group (TAG): 3:30-5 p.m. July 10. Teens ages 13-18 can meet other teens and the young adult librarian to create fun programs and suggest new resources. Participants can receive volunteer hours for their time.

    Teen Chess and Board Games: 3-5 p.m. Fridays. Students 12-17 can get instruction and participate in matches and tournaments. Participants can bring their own boards or games.

    Pleasant Hill Library Book Discussion: 6:30 p.m. in Room A. On July 16, the discussion is on "Boomerang: Travels in the New Third World," by Michael Lewis.

    Afternoon Book Discussion: 1-2:30 p.m. July 5. Adults can read with others at the library and discuss "Pearl Buck in China: Journey to the Good Earth" by Hilary Spurling.
